Light Sport Aircraft and Ultralight Aircraft and EAA's Sun N Fun Lakeland Florida 2006.

The world that many of us have know as ultralight aviation looks to be radically changing. This year at Sun N Fun Paradise City, which has been known as the ultralight area was significantly different in appearance than that of past years.

Sun N Fun has always been the place where manufacturers introduced new models and designs. For a number of years the show was dominated by single seat ultralights, the next year powered parachutes, then trikes. This year the domination was the new light sport aircraft category.

Unfortunately for the ultralight section the light sport aircraft category, which was said to be introduced to help ultralight aviation, was set up in a section by itself away from Paradise City. This left a great deal of open area in Paradise City, which is generally packed with new ultralights and light sport aircraft manufacturers and suppliers.

It will be interesting to see whether Paradise City becomes an abandoned ghost town, or a newly revitalized city next year.
