| A number of years ago I met Paul Klomhaus at Airventure at that time he had just purchased Slipstream which produced the Genesis line of ultralight and light sport aircraft. Paul has since sold his interest in Slipstream and is now owner of Eagle Aviation which is offering the EA 100 lightsport aircraft. The EA 100 is on the approved list of lightsport aircraft manufacturers. The craft on display at the U.S. Sport Aviation Expo was powered by the Rotax 100 HP 912 S aircraft engine, but is also offered with the Subaru E81 horizontally opposed, four cylinder liquid cooled engine. The engine will be offered in two versions a 115 horsepower version and a 140 horsepower Subaru. Both Subaru engine will have fuel injection and dual CDI ignition, and come with dynamometer reports to verify horsepower. The reasons for offering such high horsepower aircraft is because the aircraft has been designed for float operation, and the factory is looking to get a 120 knot cruise on the plane when float equipped. Also the higher horsepower will provide owners taking off from higher altitudes greater performance. The EA 100 uses a dual yoke and rudder pedal control system, with an option available for dual sticks. The throttle arrangement is a simple push pull tube located in the center of the console. Ground steering is via a steerable nosewheel. The EA 100 has two 15 gallon wing fuel tanks with simple site gauges located at the wing root. The wings can be easily removed by two people in about 20 minutes for storage. The plane is offered with a number of instrument panels, the standard panel comes with, an airspeed indicator, altimeter, VSI, tachometer oil pressure and oil temperature. The EA 100 has a large storage area located directly behind the adjustable seats that carry hold up to 80 lbs. The plane can be flown with the doors on or off, with removal and installation taking about 3 minutes. A cabin heat option is available for those flying in colder areas.
