Hirth high torque low rpm aircraft engines.

Recreational Power of Tiffin Ohio has been supplying the ultralight and light sport aircraft with Hirth aircraft engines, parts and service for over 14 years. Matt Dunbar first became aware of the Hirth line of engines as a former dealer for T Bird aircraft. One of his customers purchased a Hirth engine and wanted it installed on his plane.

Matt did the installation of the Hirth 2703 55 HP engine on the T Bird and was impressed "how smooth the engine, ran, it's power and fuel economy." He then contacted the Hirth factory and became a dealer and later the U.S. distributor for Hirth Aircraft engines in the U.S.

In 2006 the belt reduction drives for the Hirth F23 and 2702 engines have been redesigned to reduce the weight of the unit. This now makes the F23 50 HP twin cylinder air-cooled engine come in at a weight, complete with electric start and drive of only 82 lbs.

This year Hirth is also offering two of their liquid cooled twin and three cylinder engines in a high torque low rpm configuration. This means that they are lowering revving engines delivering more horsepower at a lower rpm setting for better fuel economy, with less noise and vibration. The TBO on all low rpm high torque engine is 1200 hours, versus a 1,000 hour TBO on the high horsepower engines.

Recreational Power stocks the full line of Hirth engines, plus all parts necessary to overhaul or repair them. Hirth offers a number of air-cooled, and liquid cooled two stroke engines in horsepower ranging from 28 to 110 HP. Some of the manufacturers offering the Hirth line of engine include, CGS Hawk, Ferguson Aircraft, Earthstar Aircraft, JDT Mini Max, as well as Para-Ski and four other powered parachute manufacturers.

All engines supplied by Recreational Power come standard with engine, fuel pump, carburator, airfilter, and spark plugs. If an engine is ordered with an electric start a voltage regulator, and starter relay is also supplied.

For customers requiring a belt or gear reduction these are also available in a number of reduction ratios.

For Quad City Challenger owners Rec Power offers a complete engine mount package, which bolts directly onto the Challenger root tube with exhaust mount and cog belt redrive. This allows for mounting of the Hirth 2702 40 HP, 3202 55 HP, 3203 65 HP, and 3503 70 HP engines.

Hirth warranty is 1 year from date of delivery, with the crankshafts having a 3 year pro-rated warranty.

Currently Recreational Power has three full time and four part time employees working out of their 5,000 foot facilities in Tiffin Ohio.
