Freebird Innovations of Detroit Lakes Minnesota were at Airventure 2006 with their full line of ultralight aircraft and accessories.

The also had on display their Sportlite 103 which is a craft that can be ordered in kit form and just assembled.

Purchased as a materials kit, where the customer has to bend all of the parts. Or it can be built by the customer from a set of plans.

When a customer buys a set of plans they get a complete set of engineering drawings, showing every part on the plane and where it goes. Also supplied is a set of 1 to 1 drawing templates which means the customer can place the finished part directly on the template to check accuracy.

The third thing supplied is a computer CD which has 3 dimensional models of parts with parts numbers. The CD which shows where and how the part fits on the plane. It also allows you to zoom in and out, and rotate etc.

The quick build kit will take about 40 hours to complete. A plans built kit will take between 200 and 300 hours.

With the 447 Rotax engine and 2.58 to 1 redrive the Sportlite 103 will take off in a couple of hundred feet, cruise all day long at 50 mph and climb out with a 250 lbs pilot at 600 feet per minute.

At Airventure 2006 Freebird introduced a float mounting system to allow a number of float systems including the Full Lotus float system to be mounted to the Sportlite 103.

The Sportlite 103 has been in production since 1992, and Freebird Innovations has been producing them for the last four years.

Freebird Innovation has been offering a very effective, hydraulic brake system for ultralight and light sport aircraft. The unit comes complete with everything needed including wheels and tires.

This year they have introduced an adapter that allows for the use of their hydraulic braking system of Azuzu wheels, saving the customer money as he does not have to replace his wheels and tires. The adapter will fit the most 5, 6, and 8 inch wheels which are the most popular sizes used in ultralight and light sport aircraft application.

They now also offer a 4 inch aluminum wheel with their braking package for those pilots that require a smaller wheel to fit into wheel pants, floats etc.

Freebird is also working closely with a number of manufacturers like Kolb, CGS Haw, Sonex, Quicksilver, Buccaneer etc. to provide specific mounting systems for their aircraft.

For those pilots wanting a toe or heal brake system Freebird now has a adapter which converts their standard system over to a toe brake system.

Another recent modification to their brake system is the addition of two additional bleeder screws locations to allow for various mounting locations and two threaded holes for mounting of wheel pants.

For several years now Freebird has offered a universal folding seat for light sport and ultralight aircraft applications. This year the seat has been modified to give the pilot two extra storage compartments one under the seat and the other behind it.
