Murphy Aircraft, Murphy Rebel light sport aircraft aircraft review.

The Murphy Rebel is a side by side seating, high wing all metal aircraft designed by Darryl Murphy owner of Murphy Aircraft of Chilliwack British Columbia.

Darryl first entered the ultralight and light sport aircraft market with his very successful Renegade Bi plane.

He has expanded his stable of light sport aircraft to include the  single place, all metal, JDM8, the Maverick a smaller version of the Rebel, and the Rebel. Murphy also produces the Elite, and Moose 2 and 4 place aircraft.

Darryl started designing and building the proto-type Rebel in 1989. His original idea "was to build a large roomy all sheet metal, homebuilt much like a certified aircraft. He wanted to take advantage of modern sheet metal practices like CNC machining and punching. For marketing purposes he powered the prototype Rebel which first flew in 1990 with the Rotax 912 80 HP engine.

Today over 600 Rebel's can be found flying worldwide powered by the Rotax 912, 912 S and 914, as well as the Lycoming 0-235 and 0-320. Another 200 or so are in various stages of construction.

The Rebel is a plane for all seasons and terrains, and can be flown on wheels, skis, floats, or amphib floats. The all metal construction is not effected by ultraviolet light, which ads to its appeal to bush plane pilots who in most cases do not have access to regular hangar space. The wings are removable in about an hour, and the tail section folds. This allows the plane to be trailered or stored in the space of a one car garage if necessary.
