Dennis Carley of U Fly It Light Sport Aircraft from Deland Florida was at Sun N Fun with a recently completed two place clipped wing Challenger. Dennis has carved a niche out for himself with his innovative line of Quad City Challenger accessories.

He has also been recognized for his craftsmanship in building Challengers, when he was awarded Grand Champion Lightplane (Light Sport Aircraft) at Sun-N-Fun, 2007, as well as a second award for best ultralight with a Quicksilver Sport II S.

This year Dennis unveiled his latest innovation an HKS engine package for the Challenger. Currently he has completed two installations and has several others near completion. One of Dennis's goals was to produce a mounting kit that could be retrofitted to any two place Challenger with no modification changes to the root tube.

The only modification that has to be done is the in board end of the aileron spars have to be shortened about 5 inches. Then a different set of push rods are supplied to activate the ailerons.

The biggest advantage of the HKS is that it is a four stroke engine, burns about half the fuel of a Rotax 503, and has nearly three times the TBO. Dennis reports that the performance numbers on the HKS are very similar to the Rotax 503.

Currently Dennis is testing different props to find out what combination works best with the HKS and Challenger.
