Excalibur light sport and ultralight aircraft.

The ultralight, light sport aircraft industry has changed considerably since it's birth in the late 70's. Many companies and designs have come and gone during that time.

A manufacturer that has staid the course through the ups and downs is Excalibur Aircraft of Sebring Florida.

After nearly a decade of being involved in the light sport aircraft industry, building and selling ultralight style aircraft Tom Karr decided in 1997 that he wanted to start from a clean sheet of paper and produce a two seat ultralight, experimental and light sport aircraft trainer.

His dream plane would be a tandem seating two place, tri-cycle gear in a pusher configuration. The Excalibur would be sold directly from the factory which would allow the use of commission that would go to a dealer or distributor to be used to give the customer standard features that would normally be considered options.

The Rotax 503 with a b drive and electric start was chosen as the standard engine for it's power and reliability. The standard fuselage was made to be 26 inches wide with a 30 inch fuselage available for larger pilots. The Excalibur design also features pilot area's front and back that are the same size, dual stick, rudder, and throttle controls, and a 10 gallon fuel tank. 5 gallon wing tanks are an option.

For faster delivery to customers Excalibur normally has wing and tail kits in stock so customers can get started building right away. Fuselage kits normally follow 6 to 8 weeks later.

The factory employs 5 full time people, producing over 95% of the kit in house from the 4,000 square foot facility in Sebring Florida

As of this writing November 2005 Excalibur Aircraft has delivered 495 kits, with nearly 300 of those flying.
