With the introduction of the new Lightsport Aircraft category a number of accessory supply manufacturers are introducing products specifically for that market. One such company is Acousticom Corporation of Elkhart Indiana.

Acousticom has been manufacturing audio communication equipment since 1980 and  currently supplies audio communications earphones, microphones, cable assemblies and headsets to the Department of Defense and other Aerospace Companies.

This year they were are Airventure unveiling their new helmets, and audio systems for Lightsport and Ultralight aircraft. The helmets are unique in that they come in one size, that is adjustable for different head sizes via the addition or removal of inner liners.

The helmets use general aviation style headsets with two plugs, which means it can be used in an ultralight, lightsport aircraft, or in regular aircraft. For those that already have aviation style headsets, they can be easily adapted to fit into an Acousticom helmet.

Acousticom also offers an intercom system, which is powered by a regular 9 volt battery. The intercom box interfaces directly into an aviation style radio, and has jacks which also allow two helmets to plug into it.

A number of push to talk switches, and interface cables are available for different radios and applications. Acousticom also designs a number of special use headsets such as for helicopter operation. According to Doug Cochran of Acoustcom "this system has active noise technology which cuts out another 10 db of low ambient noise."

This active noise technology is also available for ultralight and light sport aircraft applications.

Acousticom also offers a 5 year parts and labour warranty on their helmets and intercom systems.
