FK Light Plane U.S.A., FK 9 Mark IV Cockpit and Controls

While Jackie DeSuza climbed into the left seat, I climbed into the more comfortable for me instructors seat. Access to the 42 inch wide cabin is accomplished by first opening and clipping the bubbled out doors into their under wing holders.

You then move the control stick over to the left, grasp onto the 4130 steel fuselage cabin structure and gently pull up and in while sliding you butt into the seat.

You then bring your legs in. It may sound a little awkward but it was no problem for my 56 year old, over weight and under exercised body.

Once in you are secured by a very comfortable lap and shoulder harness. We closed and secured the doors via a simple and easy to reach and operate latch located on the door. It was instantly apparent that the outside noise dropped considerably once the doors were closed, probably due to the fact that the doors are made of composite material.

Jackie plugged in the voice activated head sets, checked the area for bystanders and fired up the 80 HP 912 Rotax engine. The engine cranked over a couple of times then came to life. Even at an idle, which is generally where the 912 engines run the roughest there was no noticeable vibration in the plane. (Craft entering the U.S. market in the future will come equipped with the 100 HP Rotax 912 S.)

It is worth noting that even with the engine running, the inside cabin noise was so low that not once during the flight did the voice activated intercom come on due to noise.

The large instrument panel is well organized and easy read, and will it is hard to imagine there not being enough room to fill even the most demanding of light sport aircraft pilots.
