3X55 Trainer Power Plant

Power is supplied by the Rotax 912, 80 HP, or 912 100 HP aircraft engines. Partial access to the top of the engine compartment requires the removal of a series of clips around the top of the engine cowl.

This can be done by one person in about 60 seconds. Removal of the lower cowl which completely exposes the engine compartment takes another minute or so.

The engine is supported via a Rotax ring style engine mount using rubber isolation mounts. With the cowl removed you can see the great deal of design and engineering that has gone into the plane. Everything is very professionally finished. All wiring is neatly routed and affixed. All electrical connections are professionally done and properly housed. The Bing carbs are equipped with fibreglass drip trays and vented to the proper area. The battery is housed in a container with the connections protected from grounding, to help prevent a fuel ignition source incase of an accident. The radiator and oil cooler are nicely tucked away in the front of the lower cowl.

For ease of maintenance once the cowl is removed the spark plugs, and oil filter can be accessed. The oil tank can be pulled completely out of the plane in seconds for an oil change. With the cowls in place an opening in the top cowl allows for checking of the oil. A gascolator drain is located on the lower left hand corner of the cowl. The pilot just reaches down and turns the valve on to check for water in his fuel.

Ground Handling

Ground steering is via the rudder pedals and a castering front wheel, which uses a rubber donut style suspension system. Hydraulic toe brakes where located on the pilots side of the craft I flew, but are located on the stick in the basic configuration.
