3X55 Trainer cockpit and controls

The 3X55 Trainer is a single engine tricycle gear, tractor configuration, high wing, two place side by side seating aircraft. The control system is standard stick and rudder with dual sticks, and rudder pedals with the Verneer style throttles located in the center and left hand side of the dash.

It is also equipped with slotted flaps. The manual flap handle is located in the center of the cockpit above the pilots head. The flaps have two positions, 15 degrees for take off and 30 degrees for landing

The elevator, ailerons and flaps are controlled by aluminum push-pull rods, and the rudder by cables. The trim system is electric with an electronic position indicator.

The wings are designed with quick disconnects on the control systems, struts and inboard leading and trailing edge attach points. Removal requires two people and takes about 5 minutes. Allowing for storage of the craft in the area of a single car garage.

The cabin area is a spacious 47.2 inches wide, and is both heated and ventilated. The visibility from the cockpit in all directions is one of the best that I have ever flown in. The instrument panel is spacious, stretching basically from one door to the other. The instruments are well organized into flight instruments on the left hand side with engine instruments in the center section and hour meter etc on the right hand side. The basic flight instruments include ASI, VSI, altimeter, compass, turn and bank.  Engine instruments include oil temperature, oil press, CHT, fuel gauge, voltmeter, tachometer and warning lamps.

Access to the cabin is through upward opening composite doors that are supported by gas spring shocks. A unique feature of the doors is that in the case of an emergency the pilot can pull and EMERGENCY handle from the inside of the cabin, release the door latch and the door comes completely off to allow the crew a quick exit. This feature will be appreciated by float plane pilots!

Behind and above the seats at head level are located two storage compartments for storing headsets etc. Another storage compartment is built into the rear of the left hand seat. The fuel tank area can be accessed by removing the rear section of the right hand seat. The standard 18.3 gallon fuel tank (optional 23 gallons) is fuelled via a fuel tank nozzle located on the exterior right hand side of the plane behind the wing. To access either area takes literally seconds, you just pull forward on the seat cushion and remove a fibreglass panel.

The seats are moulded into the structure and are equipped with very comfortable adjustable cushions for different pilot heights and weights. Each seat is equipped with a 4 point safety harness.
